Amazing Grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev’d;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ’d!
Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promis’d good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call’d me here below,
Will be forever mine.
John Newton, Olney Hymns (London: W. Oliver, 1779)
~John Newton did not always have strong faith and belief in the Divine. In fact, he worked as a slave ship captain for many years, until one stormy night when he realized that, in his helplessness, on the Grace of God could save him. Watch the movie entitled Amazing Grace, and you will see the amazing grace which one man named Wilberforce possessed~

hey hey! are you all settled in? it was good to see you. where did you see your mom? is she in the UK? hope everything is going well..glad for you to be in a state of grace-amazing or otherwise.
The other song I love- and I mean really love (enough to have it played at my funeral) is "Great is thy faithfulness"- My favorite stanza being:
"Summmer and winter and springtime and harvest-
Sun, Moon, and stars in their courses above-
Join with all nature in manifold witness-
To thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love."
Hugs friend :)
OOOOO- me and the dog are here at the same time! lol :)
Well, amazing grace good morning.
The storms 'made' the dogs come wake me from my sleep....ah.
I do kind'a connect with the song. Went fairly blind with cateracts in both eyes for a bit, veteran or not, it wasn't deemed a service connected disability, so the VA would have nothing to do with it.
An eye doctor from church found out, got me in to see a friend of his, now I can see.
Probably mis-spell cateracts, though. (it just doesn't seem right...) It just goes to prove....He can fix a wretch like me, help the blind to see, but that don't make us a bit smarter.
I didn't see the movie, but kudos to you for giving a shout-out to Wilberforce. Most people don't even know who he was.
